- For the first time, this paper addressed both the system capacity and signaling overhead for channel state information (CSI) acquisition in device-to-device (D2D) communications. A novel sub-cell based D2D grouping strategy and resource allocation framework were proposed to provide high system capacity with very low signaling overhead. The work forms the basis of follow-on work through an EU Project, iCIRRUS (with the Total amount of award € 3,832,197), in which a user-case study of D2D communications was carried out by Kent and Telekom Slovenije. The study results were reported in Chapter 9 of an iCIRRUS deliverable (http://www.icirrus-5gnet.eu/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/D23_final-submitted.pdf).
