- Double-weighted statement
- The book is the result of multi-sited research over a period of three years that brings together the fields of global history and material culture studies. Research was done in Mexico, Spain, China and the Philippines and included consulting archival documents, museum collections as well as field work with craftsmen. In addition to translating works from Spanish and Chinese into English, the project also required learning the craft of pottery in order to understand historical descriptions of the production of ceramics as well as to make meaningful observations of craftsmen who continue to use traditional techniques to make ceramics.
