- ‘Stage rights!’ is an 85,000-word monograph, the first to specifically explore the work and legacy of the Actresses’ Franchise League. Drawing from primary sources consulted across seven years of sustained research in private and public UK and non-UK based archives, this extended piece of work investigates and contextualises the wide-ranging contribution of suffragist theatre professionals to political theatre and political engagement in the first half of the twentieth century. The request to double-weight is based on the considerable body of archival material investigated, collected and analysed, the majority of it new to both suffrage and theatre histories.
