- Ruth Herbert, Eric Clarke and I collaborated equally on every aspect of editing this 17-chapter book. Together we conceived the volume, commissioned the content, organised the overall structure and sequence, and fashioned a detailed index. We each took curatorial responsibility for one of the three parts of the book (in my case Part II: ‘Consciousness in Musical Practice'); but all three editors made substantial editorial input on every chapter, together taking each one through at least three iterations. The book’s Introduction was co-authored by all three editors; I would estimate my own input to account for c. 65% of the overall labour. Additionally, I authored my own chapter, ‘Music, phenomenology, and the "natural attitude": analysing Sibelius, thinking with Husserl, reflecting on Dennett'.
