- This paper completes a comprehensive study with the Waterloo group of encounters of mode-2 internal solitary waves with bottom ridge topography (see also http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.4994590), this time focussing particularly on fission processes associated with the passage of the wave over slowly-varying (i.e. broad) topography. The paper represents the first successful combined numerical and laboratory study of these processes, with the former component replicating exactly the configuration and initial conditions of the latter.
