- This concise but detailed monograph represents sustained research in Thailand from 2010-2019 on one of Thailand’s most prestigious artists, Pichai Nirand. The research involved detailed discussion with the artist, unprecedented access to his studio and collection of a considerable photographic database of the artist’s paintings of which 37 colour paintings appear in the book. Through contextualisation of his paintings in the history of Thai art, this first published book on Pichai Nirand provides an inter-disciplinary analysis of the ways in which his paintings reflect a blend of western-eastern art, a Thai abstract-symbolist style and a Buddhist critique of Thai society.
