- This text represents a sustained programme of research over five years, involving extensive database research, and fieldwork, including at the Department of Typography at Reading University, and the Institute of Education. It provides an original conceptual contribution to several fields, including journalism studies and visual studies and has been made core reading in at least one academic programme (the Visual Studies Graduate Certificate, University of Southern California). It provides a sustained theoretical justification of, and several case study applications of, an innovative methodological approach to the use, presentation and interpretation of visual data.
