- This paper presented a technique for modelling plant roots in small scale geotechnical models using 3-D printed analogues. The technique was incorporated within the successful EPSRC grant proposal for EP/M020355/1 Rooting for sustainable performance (£640k 2015-19). Material from the paper was included within a Keynote Lecture given by Professor Knappett at the 9th International Conference on Physical Modelling in Geotechnics (2018). The paper contributed to the selection of Professor Knappett as the 13th Géotechnique Lecturer in 2017. Material from the paper was included within the lecture at the Institution of Civil Engineers which was also streamed to an international audience.
