- Double-weighted statement
- This book conducts a literary historical investigation of the impact of communism in mid twentieth century African American literature. The output conducts re-readings of canonical texts by Richard Wright and Ralph Ellison and Chester Himes to ask a series of questions about race, gender, class and agency. It meets the criteria for double-weighting in that it is a longer-form output demonstrating sustained research effort; it demonstrates considerable depth by exploring this topic from different perspectives using both historiographic and literary critical frameworks; it required a sustained period of data collection, including the difficult to access African American communist press.
