- In the world of big data, data integration technology is critical for maximising the capability of data-driven decision making. Blocking is a crucial step within the Record Linkage process, which significantly reduces the number of record comparisons. Various blocking techniques has been proposed, however, the existing well established evaluation metrics fail to provide strong evidence to support the selection of an optimal blocking method for a specific Record Linkage method. A novel procedure of selecting blocking techniques in a given scenario is proposed. This is the first time when blocking methods are evaluated in conjunction with the subsequent linkage phase.
