- Double-weighted statement
- Drawing on original seventeenth- and eighteenth-century manuscripts held by Leibniz Bibliothek and Niedersächsisches Landesarchiv in Hanover, Strickland examined many hundreds of items, many of which had to be laboriously transcribed. The preliminary research took seven years due to the difficulties involved in deciphering the manuscripts, and the need to cross-reference extant draft versions, which resulted in Strickland’s compilation of an elaborate critical apparatus, including extensive annotations, deletions and marginalia in variant sources. The items selected for inclusion were written in French, German, and Latin, with occasional uses of Greek, necessitating consultation with a number of linguistic experts.
