- Decreased blood vessel formation increases tumour therapy resistance. Building on our prior work (DOI:10.2967/jnumed.113.129668), for the first time, we showed that a non-invasive angiogenesis imaging tracer, 111In-RGD2, monitors early tumour radiotherapy response preclinically. Since, PET-equivalent 68Ga-RGD2 enabled imaging of angiogenesis in head and neck cancer patients (ZonMW; www.zonmw.nl/en/; 95104005) and patients with vascular malformations. Next, a multicentre trial (Netherlands and UK) is planned to image radiotherapy response. 68Ga-RGD2 might stratify patients for therapy and monitor response. Further funding enables us to image immuno- and radiotherapy efficacy preclinically (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity [Ruth.Bishop@gsttcharity.org.uk] and Precision X-Ray Irradiation, Inc [vbaytser@pxinc.com]).
