- This 300-page book is the result of a five-year project on a European-wide network of physicians, requiring diverse scholarship and extended research. The book is based on the analysis of a large, diverse, and highly technical body of primary sources, including 32 manuscripts, 10 objects, 27 figures, and 260 printed texts written in a wide range of languages (Dutch, English, French, German, and Latin), and preserved in more than 50 libraries, archives, and museums across Europe.
