- This book was a collaboration between Dr Blakemore and Dr Elaine Murphy, with each writing three-and-a-half of the seven chapters and contributing sections to those written by the other. Research was drawn from a range of primary material located in British, American, Irish and Dutch archives. It is the first rigorous academic book to be published on the subject and took ten years to research and write. Co-authorship was essential to allow the book to engage the Atlantic and global aspects of the British civil wars, and to take an expansive view of maritime activity beyond naval institutions.
