- Global Perspectives on Orchestras resulted from a five-year project undertaken by Ramnarine as Associate Director of the AHRC Research Centre for Musical Performance as Creative Practice (2009-14). It is a 17-chapter peer-reviewed volume developing comparative and global theorisation on a variety of orchestras, including symphony, steel, gamelan and Indian film. Ramnarine conceptualised the project, carried out multi-sited fieldwork, and mentored an international team of contributors for the volume through research workshops and editorial commentaries. The volume begins with Ramnarine’s Introduction (c. 9,300 words) and concludes with her chapter (c. 10,800 words), which emphasises historical and postcolonial connections in the world of orchestras.
