- Dr Mary Clare Martin and Dr Hugh Morrison (University of Otago, New Zealand) were joint co-editors, recruiting the authors from their contacts in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada. They jointly determined the structure of the volume, edited the draft chapters, co-authored the introduction (pp. 1-20) and compiled the index and the bibliography. Martin also contributed one single-authored chapter, “Play, missionaries and the cross-cultural Encounter in global perspective, 1800-1870” (pp. 61-84), based on original research in archives in New Zealand, South Africa and the UK.
