- One of the first research works to put substance to the emerging area of Mobile Edge Cloud (MEC) which has since become a hot research topic. The work shows how function virtualisation can be used to provide cost-efficient support for emerging low-latency applications e.g., mobile augmented reality, autonomous vehicles. It shows where, when and how many resources to allocate and demonstrates up to 33% cost saving in comparison to existing approaches. This work has since received increasing attention via citations and is being viewed as one of the main approaches for optimal MEC deployment in several other works and survey.
