- This paper has had a significant impact on the state of the art by directly comparing the gas blowby power loss with frictional losses at the piston ring-cylinder liner conjunction including ring elastodynamics and tribology. The paper’s findings have led to more PhD studentships under EPSRC schemes in partnership with AVL. The underlying methodology in this research has been used to analyse the advanced coating technologies for Capricorn Automotive Ltd (DOI 10.1016/j.apenergy.2019.114129).
