- The Politics of Hospital Provision in Early Twentieth Century Britain is a 100,000 word research monograph that, through extensive archival research, makes a significant contribution to the history of healthcare. The research for the work was funded by various Wellcome Trust awards. Through case studies of hospital services in the major English cities of Leeds and Sheffield, the book challenges the view that the healthcare system was in financial crisis between the wars. It also demonstrates the substantial growth in patient access during this period and the role of women in directing and managing services.
