- Forwards an important methodological advancement to a widely applied spatial analytical technique, enabling the incorporation of public transport mechanisms into assessments of access to services. With many households in the UK, and elsewhere, reported to have no access to a car often in areas with high elderly, unemployed, and low-income households, this ensures access to work, training, education and recreational opportunities for vulnerable members of society can be more accurately quantified. The enhanced methodology also provides evidence to support better public transport planning to tackle concerns relating to climate change and to reduce transportation greenhouse gas emissions.
