- This experimental and computational study is the result of a collaboration between scientists at MIT and NTU. It provides atomic level detail on the unique fluorescence of the dye, PDMPO in the presence of silica. It provides an analytical framework for the application of this technique in biology and chemistry and extends to the measurement of pH over a wide scale (2-13), dielectric constant (6-90) and water content of solutions; the pH response has been used to help understand silica in, for example, diatoms (doi:10.1186/s12915-017-0400-8) and okra (doi:10.1002/advs.201600416).
