- The research and writing up of this project took approximately nine years, was supported by the University of Edinburgh’s Principal’s Career Development Scholarship, and resulted in a monograph of approximately 120,000 words (published by Cambridge University Press in January 2019). It offers the first comprehensive analysis of the life-writing of British veterans of the Second World War, drawing on an extensive and hitherto ignored range of published war memoirs and archival materials to offer important new insights into British veterans’ memories of wartime combat and the shifting cultural identities of military life-writing in post-war British society.
