- The paper describes a Knowledge exchange project with BAE SYSTEMS Maritime on the use of standard Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) components (PROFIBUS) in RN vessels (Senior Engineering Manager, BAE Systems, details on request). BAE SYSTEMS Maritime are recognised by DOD as experts for their use of COTS in safety-critical engineering to counter obsolescence. This paper is cited when the use of COTS for mission-critical systems is needed (e.g., Isaza-Gonzaleza et al (2019), Adam et al (2020), Hawkins & Gravier (2019)), and led to a keynote talk invitation from University of York's Safety-Critical Systems Club in 2019.
