Song Cycles in Question: 'Swansong' and 'The View from the Villa'.
This multi-component output consists of two related works of music theatre: dramatized performances of song cycles (one by Schubert and one by Wagner) whose genesis and/or reception has made them in some way ‘contested’. The works are represented by recordings (audio-visual and audio-only) of public performances and by their respective scripts. The research project which produced them is set out in a written description.
