- This National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR) monograph is the comprehensive report of INTERVAL, the first dental NIHR (£3.5M) commissioned multi-centre trial. Conducted across the UK it required ambition, complex trial design and a multidisciplinary research team to challenge the tradition of 6-monthly dental check-ups. The author contributed to the idea, secured funding and led on the outcomes most important to the funder: quality of life, anxiety and patient satisfaction. INTERVAL evaluated extending check-ups to 24months over 4-years follow-up in 50 practices and 2372 adult patients. She interpreted findings, leading on patient reported data, and contributed to drafting the monograph.
