- This book reports the results of a 22-year research project carried out by the University of York and partners (1994-2016). The complex investigation comprised an evaluation phase, excavation and recording of the church of St Colman and an adjacent area of 0.7ha, publication for academic and general readers, and the creation of a museum on site and represents one of the largest research excavations to have taken place in Scotland. The final results of the project presented in this volume have transformed our understanding of the origins and development of early medieval monasticism in Pictland.
