- This book is the first project of its kind on past European health. It represents the investigation of health from multiple perspectives, sustained over two decades. The work was based on the collection and analysis of data on the health of 15,119 individuals, from 103 sites in 16 countries spanning 3rd-19th C AD. Roberts was involved from the first meeting in 2001 through to publication in 2019. She undertook editing on every chapter (see preface p. xv); first authored two chapters; co-authored 3 chapters. The work was supported by 3 NSF grants and a grant from the German Science Foundation.
