- This 359-page publication, with Stringer as lead editor/contributor, stems from a major AHRC-funded research project which he initiated and directed. It brings together scholars with intersecting political and socio-cultural interests to provide a much deeper understanding of the far-reaching legacies of the Normans as one of the great transformative forces in the history of medieval Europe. Its importance for Norman scholarship stems from its imaginative conceptual and methodological approaches, including original comparative assessments ranging from the British archipelago to the Mediterranean Basin. Stringer’s single-authored contributions and editorial initiatives have been described by leading experts such as David Bates as ‘magisterial’.
