- The monograph was the result of five years of research. Covering three periods from the 1980s–2010s, the research is based on primary and secondary source material in Chinese and English, and interviews conducted in mainland China. Portions of the research were presented as part of invited lectures at Renmin University of China, Fudan University, and Cambridge University. The material was revised and submitted to OUP in Summer 2017.
