- This empirically-driven research analysed the root-cause and impact of straggler manifestation within massive-scale Cloud datacentres. The research is first to study stragglers at scale, and involved analysing two production systems operated by global technology companies including Google. Findings have provided the cloud, fault tolerance, and distributed systems research communities with much-sought knowledge of complex phenomena within real-world systems at scale, and has been used to define fundamental research assumptions. This research was published within a special issue in IEEE Transactions on Services Computing – a top venue for Software Engineering. Findings directly underpinned successful funding of an EPSRC First Grant.
