- Double-weighted statement
- This book provides the first full account of the development of Edward II’s sexual and political reputation in medieval and early modern England. This necessitated the collection and analysis of a large body of material: its argument draws on over 100 accounts of Edward II’s reign from multiple genres. Many chronicle sources were difficult to access, available only in manuscript or in Latin/Anglo-Norman printed editions. Additionally, its appendix (which provides new editorial research on the sources, influence and textual history of 135 accounts of and allusions to Edward II’s reign) necessitated a lengthy period of data collection and investigation.
