- This is a major contribution (90,000 words) to the historiography of British tourism. It rests upon the collection and analysis of a large body of material, notably newspaper sources, together with manuscript collections, official publications, guidebooks, etc. The research began in 2008 and involved an exhaustive examination of Barry Library’s holdings of microfilmed local newspapers. That phase of the project had been completed when, in 2013, the Welsh Newspapers Online database was released, allowing for an even wider range of sources to be examined. In all, more than 40 newspaper titles were consulted.
