- This is a longer-form output of around 110,000 words based on six years of research, including fieldwork in seven languages across nine countries in Africa, Latin America and post-communist Europe. The fieldwork included over 350 interviews with MPs, as well as data collection of legislative bills and coalitions across a cumulative period of over 100 years. The book, which relies on both qualitative and quantitative analysis, breaks new ground by assessing the effects of presidential coalition formation and maintenance across regions on classic development concerns such as corruption, accountability, and the delivery of public services.
