- This monograph is the first comprehensive synthesis of the mortuary remains from the internationally important settlement of Lepenski Vir in the Danube Gorges, Serbia. The author spent five years gathering together the information from the as yet unpublished excavation of the settlement and has assembled a substantial volume of over 500 pages. This is richly illustrated, and the catalogue and description of the human remains is definitive. The descriptive elements are combined with a detailed theoretical consideration of the burial practices which makes a major contribution to understanding societies on the transition between hunter gatherer and agriculturalists.
