- Non-dissipative travelling-wave parametric amplifiers operating in the three-wave mixing regime are a poorly understood but highly desirable future technology for quantum state measurement of superconducting qubits and other investigations of the microwave field in the quantum limit. This work was a critical design advance, it demonstrated that the approximations present in all prior analytical design work failed to describe the operation of a real device. We developed numerical tools that describe the full device behaviour and are useful to design future devices.
