- Additional information
- This output comprises: sole editorship of the whole special journal, authorship of the introduction and the article ‘The Royal typographer and the Alchemist: Willem Silvius and John Dee’.
This issue was initiated and developed through two international research events, both sponsored b the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry (SHAC). The first of these was a European meeting in the Plantin museum in Antwerp in 2014, ‘The Printer and the Alchemist: John Dee’s Monas Hieroglyphica after 450 years’, co-organised by Clucas and a Belgian colleague, Manuel Mertens. That conference led to a further international workshop in London in 2018, ‘Alchemy and Print Culture’, which Clucas organized alone (inviting speakers from the Netherlands, the US, France and the UK). As editor of the ensuing journal, Clucas solicited contributions from speakers to shape the issue, liaising with the journal’s editor. Clucas selected peer reviewers and discussed reviews with authors.
