- Chronic Illness, Vulnerability and Social Work: Auto-immunity and the Contemporary Disease Experience was shortlisted for the Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness Book Prize (2016). This monograph theorises the lived experience of autoimmunity drawing on original research including participant interviews, blog posts, focus groups and participants’ artistic representations of illness. The study employed an interactive research blog - a dedicated online space (246 posts) where participants shared their illness narratives. These approaches constituted a significant step forward in the use of digital technologies in qualitative research. The book reconceptualises social work’s engagement with vulnerability, illness and the body.
