- Research for this book, which extends to 248 pages, occurred across 2014-18. Given that homosexuality is criminalised in Kenya, a profound investment of time and resources was required to build trust and conduct fieldwork on 4 separate occasions while navigating socio-political sensitivities. The case studies reflect work across literary texts, music videos, social media and life-stories. Each required the use of distinct methods. Intersecting African studies, queer studies, and religious studies, and with a commitment to queer and decolonial methodological advancement which engaged researcher positionality and reflexivity in radical ways, the trans-disciplinary nature of the research was extremely complex.
