- The significance of this study into the unsteady flow in a turbine blade row passage, lies in its analytical nature. The simple linear one dimensional expression derived allows a deeper insight into the relationship between non-uniform inlet flow and the pressure pulsation measured. Previously the mechanism, involving the fluctuation of momentum in the passage was not known. In the real three dimensional unsteady flow it is very difficult to discern cause and effect, but in one dimension it is clear to see. The results clearly show how energy is transferred through unsteady work and that the wakes become much weaker.
