- This is a timely contribution to both the field of Design Management and its education, providing a holistic view of the field in a global context. Structured around four key perspectives: Values, Horizons, Visions, and Futures, each of the four sections presents a critical investigation on the discrete aspects of design management: the value of design management as a resource; as a key component of strategy development; how design management can be used to envision new business opportunities; and how it can drive innovation and create meaningful relationships with in traditional and non-traditional contexts. Viewed in its entirety, a holistic exploration of design management is both offered and explored. To complement each section, industry leaders and policy makers offer real-world insights and commentary on how design is both managed and applied within a series of differing and dynamic organisational contexts, offering the reader a unique and highly personalised account of the contemporary value of design management in practice. The book represents an important and timely contribution to design management and the management of product and service innovation. It enables the reader to critically examine the origins and development of design management theory and practice, exploring the application of design to organisational vision. It argues that design management is a key asset in organisational activity throughout a wide and diverse variety of industrial and geographic contexts within an increasingly globalised world. The book has been listed on several university reading lists including York St. John. Great interest and demand for this work has seen the book translated into Japanese in 2020, and available as an ebook with associated online resources.
