- Double-weighted statement
- This substantial book (408pp) is truly international in focus. It argues for a major shift in the canons of LGBTQ+ film studies toward the non-western world, particularly the global south. It thus brings together global studies, queer theory, and film theory in pioneering ways. The coauthors spent ten years on fieldwork and research (including an AHRC Network Grant). Primary sources (films, videos, festival catalogues, interviews) were gathered from archives and personal collections of filmmakers, curators, and activists worldwide. The material analysed includes over 250 films from dozens of countries. It won the outstanding monograph award from the discipline’s professional organisation.
