- Double-weighted statement
- This book has required a decade-long interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers from four different subject fields within the social sciences. It was undertaken first on the basis of institutional seed corn funding and then following the award of an ESRC project grant. The underpinning research is of considerable scale. It was conducted in research sites across three continents, being grounded in comparative study of countries in the Caribbean, East Asia and Eastern Europe. It is also based on almost 250 fieldwork interviews, requiring the authors to be in situ at their research locations for extended periods of time.
