- This paper reports upon the outcomes of an industrially-funded Network Innovation project (FALCON, £13m by Ofgem, https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/regulating-energy-networks/current-network-price-controls-riio-1/network-innovation) on dynamic power distribution networks in the West Midlands. The proposed dynamic network rating was implemented and validated. Project partner Western Power Distribution applied the technique to replace conventional asset management. The results were shared with the international power industry community (e.g. Vector Ltd., New Zealand) and attracted further industrial funding from UK Power Networks to apply to power supply areas beyond the trial area.
