- Based on a decade of research, this book provides rare in-depth analysis of the financialization of work and labour, as well as insight into the enactment of economic transformation in post-Mao China. It draws on sixteen months embedded fieldwork inside a global management consultancy - a powerful and notoriously difficult to access institution – and showcases original methods for studying large and complex organisations ethnographically. Shortlisted for the 2020 European Group for Organizational Studies book award, it aspires to be an exemplar text in the anthropology of organisations and the inter-disciplinary study of capitalist elites and their epistemic practices.
