- This 500 page book for which the author is solely responsible arises from original research on twelve ancient manuscripts. Vital work was undertaken during a Mid-Career Fellowship funded by the British Academy over eight months with four more years taken to complete the volume alongside other duties. Cumulatively gained insights shape the interpretation offered in every chapter. Previous published work had focused on selected passages, often comparatively. The focus here is on the twelve Community Rule manuscripts from the material, linguistic, to the literary. A new perspective draws on insights from apotropaic material that reveals important overlooked hermeneutical possibilities.
