- Based on five years of research, this monograph analyses a large number of primary sources (twenty novels). It is grounded in continental philosophy and critical theory and systematically links close-readings of novels with cultural and political developments in Spain, Mexico and Cuba since the 1970s. The book traces a genealogy for key concepts in contemporary scholarship (e.g. dark comedy and melancholy) and proposes new uses for those concepts. It makes a significant contribution not only to scholarship on Hispanic detective fiction but also to fields such as Transatlantic studies, memory studies, literary theory and critical theory.
