- This article assesses older people’s reactions and responses to unfamiliar environments by identifying triggers influencing their experience. Its significance derives from innovatively combining geospatially and temporally referenced quantitative and qualitative data from participants (oral narratives, physiological and emotional responses) with physical street audit assessment. Councils, governments and international organisations have evidenced the research in relation to age-friendly built environments and it has underpinned Public Health England’s encouragement of physical activity in older people.
