- 'Hispanic Baroque Ekphrasis' took seven years to research and write. This is an extensive work (98,000 words) covering the impact of the new style developed by the Spanish author Góngora (1561-1627), which transformed Baroque poetics on both sides of the Atlantic. Its implications extend beyond the Hispanic world to inform broader discussions about poetic influence, transmission of culture, and the relationship between art and poetry. The monograph also makes a substantial contribution to literary historiography: every chapter employs fresh printed and archival material (held in Madrid, Barcelona, Lima, Bogotá, Mexico City, London and Cambridge), much of it not easily accessible.
