- This monograph (317 pp) explores the novel, play and film of Love on the Dole, its forgotten radio footprint, and the extensive public response. It discusses Greenwood’s other ten novels and his non-fiction, his theatre work from 1934 to 1971 and his film work from 1935 to 1959. It draws on sustained work over ten years in physical archives including the Walter Greenwood Collection at Salford University, the BBC Written Archives, the BFI Reuben Library, and on newspaper databases in Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Additional work was caused by the difficulty of identifying the current Greenwood copyright-owner.
