- The research for this monograph spanned eight years and was partly funded by an AHRC PhD studentship award (2008–13) and a Leverhulme Research Assistant position (2013–15). Research included extensive archival work on overlooked punk-era sources. The book integrates approaches from popular music studies, critical theory, cultural studies and history to develop a new analytical method applicable beyond its area of focus. It is the first sustained scholarly assessment of post-punk, its argument encompassing themes such as class, gender, cultural form and popular music’s role in political conflict.
